Apparently, the brain doesn’t function at full capacity when one is physically exhausted. I just noticed that the title of yesterday’s post was “Pardone’. (which resembles the French word for “excuse me.” ) Since I haven’t spoken French since I took it with Ms. Meske (Madame Gouche) in 9th grade, I should have caught my mistake.
The actual name of the town is “Padrón.” (Pronounced paa-drone.
Good grief.
We got a very early start this morning, knowing today was going to be another arduous journey, and hoping to miss the hottest part of the day.
It shouldn’t have been a concern. The first hint we had that the weather had shifted was seeing some lightning afar off, followed by distant rumbling thunder. Soon it turned into a full-on downpour.
The good thing is, the temperature was warm. We were unprepared, unlike a lot of the silly ol’ pilgrims who put on their ponchos, covered their backpacks with rain protectors, and even pulled out their umbrellas.
Neither of us had rain gear and we were both in tee-shirts.
It poured. We were actually cracking up. Soaked to our skin within an hour. It certainly beats being roasted by the relentless sun! But have you ever tried to pull up your underwear and pants when your skin is dripping wet, along with your clothing?
It’s not easy.
Ahhhh well- another Camino message for us, I guess. Not sure what it is, yet, but maybe I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and realize what today’s lesson was all about.
Stopped into a beautiful church at one point and prayed for strength. Came across another and said, “there’s another beautiful old church,” and continued walking – which I know is not the Camino spirit, but my feet were swollen and sore and my legs were almost done for.
We both just wanted to make it to our refuge in Milladourio.
As has become the routine; we got to our apartment, showered, and crashed.
Buen Camino!

Heading out of Padron.

I didn’t take near enough pictures today- and wish I would have. Contrary to what it sounds like, we had a good day. We took several breaks by stopping in small towns to have coffee and eats and rest for a bit. I missed out capturing a lot of it.
I plan to do better tomorrow!
